  2. What sort of King was Henry VII? An overview of his achievements and an assessment of his success.
  3. What sort of king was Henry VIII? An overview of his reign looking at his wives, his court, his personality and some of his successes and failures.
  4. What changes did the Roman Catholic Church in England face under the Tudors? The reasons for the break with Rome and the changes under Edward, Mary and Elizabeth.
  5. What sort of rulers were Edward VI and Mary I? The problems they faced and whether they were successful or not.
  6. What sort of queen was Elizabeth I? The problems she faced on coming to the throne, particularly as a woman, her use of propaganda, her relationship with Mary Queen of Scots and the Armada.
  7. What was it like to live in Tudor England? The lives of the rich, the poor and women.
  8. What happened under the Stuarts? An overview of their reigns, with special attention to the Gunpowder plot, the Great Plague and the Fire of London.
  9. What happened during the Civil War? The causes, course and consequence of the civil war. Cromwell - hero or villain?
  10. What changed in the way Britain was ruled after 1660? The restoration of the monarchy, the glorious Revolution and the new relationship with Scotland. An overview of Hanoverian rule.
  11. What advances were there in science during this time? Why advances occurred and the effects on people's lives.
  12. How did Britain change between 1750 and 1900? An overview to introduce the topic.
  13. What was the agricultural revolution and how did it change people's lives?
  14. How did the mechanisation of industry change people's lives? An examination of some of the inventions and the differences that factories brought to people's lives.
  15. What was it like to live in a nineteenth century town? This will include specific reference to Manchester.
  16. How did transport change and what were the effects of this change? Canals, railways and road building improvements.
  17. How did the treatment of women change between 1750 and 1900?
  18. How had medicine improved by 1900 and how did this affect the people? Improvements in public health, the work of Lister and the causes of cholera
  19. In what ways was Britain different in 1750 than in 1900?
