Combined Cadet Force

During their third year at School (Year 9), pupils may volunteer to join the CCF (the "Corps"). They are issued with uniform and accompany the Contingent on a Field Day in June and, if they wish, Summer Camp, where they take part in a wide variety of training and activities such as:
- Orienteering
- Campcraft
- Confidence courses
- March and shoot competitions
- Drill
- Shooting
- Fieldcraft
- Signals (with radios)
- Flying and gliding
- 24 hour exercise/survival training
- Raft-building
- Rock climbing and abseiling
- Mountain-biking
- Canoeing
- First aid
- Work experience
- Dry-slope skiing
- Sailing
Cadets join either the Army (KING'S REGIMENT) or the RAF Section, both of which are officered by teachers. They stay in the Corps for five terms, during which time they will pass various tests and gain promotion. If keen, they may then choose to carry on as NCOs (sergeants etc) in the VIth Form, undergo more advanced training, help instruct younger cadets, and attend specialised courses.
The Corps meets for training once a week after School, and goes away for one Field Day per term. In addition to Summer Camps, there are two camps at Easter, one on an RAF Station, the other adventurous training in North Wales. All CCF activities are either free of charge or extremely cheap!
Cadets gain from membership of the CCF in all sorts of ways:
They are given the opportunity to take part in lots of unusual
and exciting activities, camps and courses which are normally not
available to young people;
From their challenging training they gain and develop essential
personal skills, especially self-discipline and
self-confidence;
They develop an important understanding of the role of the Defence
Forces in the modern world;
Cadet training and activities encourage a real sense of loyalty and
teamwork.
For all these reasons we actively encourage our pupils, boys and
girls alike, to join the Corps and take full advantage of this
unique range of opportunities.
