Membership
MEMBERSHIP & TRAINING

- Membership of the CCF is entirely voluntary, although it is hoped that cadets will honour their initial undertaking to remain for at least five terms in order to complete their basic training.
- A short presentation on the CCF (the "Corps") is given to all Year Nine pupils during their Lent Term. Pupils are then given letters for their parents detailing the essential aspects of the organisation, inviting their daughter or son to join one of the two Sections, Army or Royal Air Force, and to attend one of the two Camps in July.
- Uniform is provided on loan free of charge with the exception of boots and a WHGS CCF sweatshirt which may be worn for training at School.
- Cadets train during term every Monday from 1600-1700hrs. Late transport problems are treated sympathetically.
- A Field Day is held each term during the week, sometimes involving overnight training, and always away from School (usually on a RAF station or an Army training area.)
- Camps are held for each Section during the Easter and the Summer holidays including a joint Adventurous Training Camp which is open to cadets from both Sections.
- Most cadet training is carried out by Contingent officers, with the Weapons Safety Test being conducted by members of 26 Cadet Training Team (26 CTT) or the RAF liaison sergeant who are regular servicemen. During their first five terms Army Section cadets prepare for the Army Proficiency Certificate (APC) which they receive at a Passing Out Parade taken by the Headmaster or the Contingent Commander. Cadets then go on to take a Methods of Instruction Cadre (MoI) conducted and tested by 26CTT. Both these stages normally lead to promotion (see Promotions Policy). RAF Section cadets follow a syllabus leading to Parts I, II and III Tests conducted by the RAF liaison sergeant.
- After GCSE cadets may resume their training, attend Camp, and as NCOs in the VIth Form follow advanced courses and assist the officers in training younger cadets.
OFFICER TRAINING
All officers hold the Queen's Commission. They have undergone
full security clearance and take a basic training course (for Army
Section officers this is held at the Cadet Training Centre, Frimley
Park, Camberley). This covers the cadet APC syllabus. Officers also
take the Weapons Safety Test. Army Section Officers have taken
Advanced (Infantry) courses, and all officers have taken a variety
of other specialist courses including Mountain First Aid, Obstacle
Course Instruction, Unit Security, Signals, Range Management and
Adventurous Training (canoeing, expedition leader,
climbing).
