The emphasis across the Primary Phase is to ensure that all pupils are challenged to achieve their potential. In some cases, pupils may need extra support with particular subject areas. This is provided in small group work with the support of the teacher or a teaching assistant within the classroom. On occasion, pupils may be withdrawn for extra support in certain areas. Individual needs are assessed by class teachers, the Head of the Primary Phase and the Academy's SEN Co-ordinator, so that the needs of all children can be met. Pupils who are placed on the Academy's Learning Support Register are provided with an Individual Education Plan which is reviewed twice a year. Specific activities to help the pupil to improve will be carried out and the results will be shared with parents at Parent Consultation Evenings.
Pupils who show particular aptitude in certain areas will be placed on the Academy's Gifted and Talented Register. Extension and challenge activities will be provided by the class teacher in order to ensure that such pupils are stretched.
