Sixth Formers secure places at UK’s top universities, including the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge
Students at William Hulme’s Grammar School (WHGS) are set to take up their places at some of the UK’s top universities this autumn, with two students heading to the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge.
This year, A Levels were awarded following Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) due to the cancellation of external examinations.
Among those taking up places at Russell Group universities are:
- Ali Alizadeh, who first began studying in the UK only three years ago, is joining the University of Cambridge to read Engineering;
- Lexie Pert who is going on to study Medicine at the University of Oxford;
- Ahmad Alfakhuri who is going on to study Architecture at the University of Liverpool;
- Feiyang Lin who is going on to study Economics at University College London;
- Kashaf Humayun who is going on to study Law at the University of Manchester;
- Alim Zaib who is going on to study Artificial Intelligence at the University of Manchester;
- Pearlin Murmu who is going on to study English Literature and History at the University of Manchester.
Speaking of his achievement, Ali Alizadeh said:
"I'm really going to miss WHGS. I would like to thank all the departments and my teachers for their guidance over the past three years. I am very grateful that my teachers have supported me, both in my hardest and my greatest days, and I am excited to start studying Engineering at the University of Cambridge!"
Peter Mulholland, Principal of William Hulme’s Grammar School, said:
“I am delighted for our Sixth Form students, who are celebrating some excellent results today in the most trying of circumstances. Everyone has worked so hard together to ensure that our students can celebrate their results today and look forward to a very strong set of destinations. We are delighted that they are taking the first steps towards the professions and careers to which they aspire.
“High achievement in the Sixth Form cascades down, encouraging our younger students to believe in their own ability and demonstrating what hard work can achieve. It is also testament to the commitment and enthusiasm of our staff who work closely alongside our Sixth Form students and are always on hand to give them the extra support they need to push themselves that bit further.
“The Sixth Form Centre has had a significant impact on the results and ethos of our Sixth Form. I know that these results and destinations will set a strong example for our new cohort, inspiring them to strive for equally high standards and aim for even better outcomes in the future.”
