Little Lions Club in Primary Phase

Spring Term 2020

The Little Lions Club has been launched in Nursery and is run by Mrs Fletcher Orr; Nursery Teacher and Parental Engagement Lead.

Every Friday morning, ten parents attend a session where they receive information about how to support their child at home. They are encouraged to share their ideas and opinions and ask questions.  After about 20 minutes, their children join them and engage in fun activities that emulate what is happening in the classroom, which are adaptable to home. For example, one session involved making playdough from scratch and exploring all the learning that can evolve from it. Another session was about the importance of imaginary play and the parents really got stuck in and made dens on the floor and made up stories using toys and puppets.

There has been positive feedback from the parents:

"I have learnt how to make reading interesting for my child."

"We loved making the playdough and we will use the recipe at home."

The session will be open up to 10 more parents each half term.
