On Thursday, 28 February and Tuesday, 10 March, our entire Year 8 students had First Aid training from British Red Cross. Students enjoyed a hands-on and engaging workshop with an expert in emergency first aid. Some of the skills covered included responding to incidents of knife crime, supporting unconscious patients and how to administer CPR.
After watching a video, students discussed the theory of the 'bystander effect' and the reasons why people do not always feel that they can support people in need. Students said that they now feel equipped with enough knowledge to be able to respond to someone in need, and how to identify what help they can give out.
Everyone in Year 8 received a certificate for completing the course and they have taken home some valuable life-saving skills.
Well done Year 8!
