Partial School Closure due to Coronavirus

As you are aware, William Hulme’s Grammar School has remained fully open until this point and I would like to thank the staff, students, parents and carers for their unrelenting support and understanding at this unique and challenging time. Advice changes daily regarding coronavirus and we are ensuring the school keeps fully up to date with all the latest developments issued by Public Health England, The Department for Education and government officials.
Unfortunately, due to high staff absences, I have made the difficult decision to close the school with effect from Wednesday, 18 March, to students in the following years:
- Year 1
- Year 3
- Year 4
This will be reviewed on a regular basis and communicated to you. This is regrettable, but my priority is the safety and well-being of all students on the school site. During lessons/assemblies this week, children have been made aware of access and expectations around home learning. More details about this learning from home can be found at: www.whgs-academy.org/learning-from-home.
The school will be open to the following year groups:
- Year 2
- Year 5
- Year 6
- Year 7
- Year 10
- Year 11
- Year 12
- Year 13
If you are a parent/carer who works in healthcare, emergency services or schools, you may continue to send our son/daughter to school despite the year group closure. As Principal, I feel we need to support the frontline services at this very difficult time and allowing your child to still attend school is one way of doing this. These children will have a special arrangement and follow an agreed timetable. At the point of any full school closure, this provision will be reviewed. There is no obligation to accept this offer if you have made other arrangements, but please do email the school if you intend to take up the offer and continue to send your child to school.
Thank you for your continued support of WHGS and please do keep in touch with the school with any questions or issues you may have. We will ensure that clear lines of communication are maintained through text, email and website updates.
