Each month in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC), we hold a House Competition that is designed to encourage a wider interest in books and allow our students to share in the strong reading culture we are so proud of at the school.
Books of the Month offers students from Primary and Secondary Phase the opportunity to win a chosen book as a prize, with different titles chosen for each Phase. The competition is usually delivered in the library itself – students complete an entry form by answering a simple book-related question and drop their form in the dedicated box at the library counter.
As one way of ensuring the library experience continues throughout lockdown, we decided to try and run Books of the Month online, through our school website, email and social media channels. Unsure as to whether holding the competition in a completely unfamiliar way would work, Miss Daly is delighted to report, after receiving entries via email, Twitter and Instagram, that it was a success!
Many congratulations to the winners of Books of the Month for May, who win copies of the books below and gain points for their House:
Aizah (Year 2) has won a copy of the thrilling mystery story ‘Peril in Paris: Taylor & Rose Secret Agents’ by Katherine Woodfine
Laraib (Year 9) and Maryam (Year 11) both win copies of the outstanding dystopian adventure ‘The Dog Runner’ by Bren MacDibble
The answer to our question for May – ‘What is the capital of Australia?’ – as so many of you guessed correctly, was Canberra.
Well done and thank you to all who took part – if you were not lucky this time, make sure you enter the latest:
