School Meals

CaterlinkChildren and young people need the right balance of food and nutrients to grow and develop.  A healthy nutritious lunch gives students the energy to concentrate in class and cope with the demands of the day.  Our canteen serves a hot meal every day, with plenty of healthy choices available.  There is always a vegetarian option, a halal option and a variety of salads on offer.  School meals also provide students with the opportunity to develop social skills while they enjoy eating with other students.    Our school meals offer excellent value for money.

The school uses a biometric cashless catering system and students access their allocated accounts by using finger scan identification.

Catering accounts must be in credit at all times in order to purchase food and/or drinks in the dining hall, as cash payments are not accepted.

Students are permitted to bring their own packed lunch to school which must be eaten in the dining hall. Packed lunches should follow our Healthy Eating and Drinking Policy.   Fizzy drinks are not permitted.

Our caterers (Caterlink) reserve the right to change the menus at short notice owing to unforeseen circumstances.

William Hulme's Grammar School is proud to have achieved National Healthy Schools status.  This means that all pupils from 3 to 18 are encouraged to ensure that they have a healthy lifestyle.  This covers the four areas of Personal, Social and Health Education, Healthy Eating, Physical Activity and Emotional Health and Well-being.  Various activities take place to promote a healthy lifestyle, some during curriculum time and others as organised one-off visits or focus days.  The school has a Healthy Eating Policy and all food is served in the dining room meets the national standards.  Items such as fizzy drinks are not allowed in school.

If you have any catering queries, please call the Finance Office on 0161 232 5522.

WHGS offers a biometric cashless catering system, using finger scan identification to prevent fraudulent use*. The finger scan uses a pattern of 8 points and a complete fingerprint cannot be reconstructed from this data. The scan is encrypted in a unique format so that it is not compatible with any other system. The data is kept on a secure server which is not accessible from outside the school. All data will be used internally only and will not be available to any external agency. Data is used and recorded in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 (GDPR). In the future the same system may also be extended to other uses such as the control of library books and electronic registration.

We need your specific consent for your child(ren)’s biometric data to be used. You will be asked to complete the consent form when your child joins the school.

* Children in Nursery do not use the finger scan but have meals recorded manually. Printed statements are available from the Bursary on request. All other pupils, including those entitled to free school meals, will operate the system by using their finger.

Catering accounts must be in credit at all times.

If you wish to restrict the daily spend, please advise the Bursary.
