The Further Maths course has mandatory pure maths content and optional applied. The core for the AS is all required knowledge for the A level and will include proof, complex numbers matrices, roots of equations and series. We would offer statistics and mechanics as the applied modules. This would leave three applied options available for the A level. Either a major option in mechanics with a minor in statistics, a major in statistics and a minor in mechanics or three minors in statistics, mechanics and modelling with algorithms.
A grade 7 is the minimum requirement for Further Maths but due to the complexity of the course a grade 8 or 9 is advised. Students taking further maths must take A level maths as well.
If you find mathematics easy then you should consider Further Mathematics.
Further maths is especially useful if you are considering degrees in any of the more mathematical subjects such as maths, engineering, physics, computing, economics or actuarial science. The course links in with the mathematics A Level course and takes these ideas further.
