The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at William Hulme’s Grammar School is a central hub for learning and enrichment. A hive of activity that sits at the heart of the school, the LRC can be found in the Zochonis building, adjacent to the English Department.
We are open daily, providing support in two main areas: independent learning and reading for pleasure. As a Read Manchester School Champion, with wonderful partnership agreements with Manchester Libraries and Read Manchester, we are committed to providing access to exciting and informative reading materials that will ensure our already thriving reading culture is maintained.
With a varied and constantly updated range of fiction and non-fiction titles, the LRC will have something of interest to help you foster a love of books and refine your reading skills. In addition to our varied book collections, we support homework and research needs through computer access and printing facilities, made available in our well-equipped IT Suite.
We also offer a range of extra-curricular opportunities that focus on developing wellbeing and wider involvement in literacy. Students are able to apply for the role of Library Prefects, through an application and interview process, designed to provide them with real world experience. Library Prefects are a crucial part of the day to day running of the library and are rewarded with unique benefits such as lunch time passes, greater involvement in library events, author visits and World Book Day, as well as being treated to school trips.
The LRC Manager, Mr Carter, is very keen to ensure we are a student-led library that takes pride in engaging our young people in a variety of creative ways. Our literacy team are committed to ensuring that students create positive associations with reading and can take part in enriching initiatives such as House competitions, BookBuzz, Readathon and Poetry By Heart.
As well as working closely with teaching staff to guarantee we continue to stock relevant and appropriate academic materials to supplement the curriculum, we encourage our students to make recommendations of titles they would like to read or have read before and wish to make available for others to enjoy.
Above all, we want our students to access the resources they need easily, and with confidence, and strive to offer a learning environment that also serves as a welcoming space. With a bustling atmosphere and sense of community, the LRC really is the place to be!
Opening Hours:
The LRC is open to all students before school from 8.00am, during breaks and lunchtimes, and after school until 4.00pm.
