Last term, a group of hand-selected Year 8 students spent an exciting and entertaining morning with acclaimed author (and former WHGS member of staff) Kimberly Whittam!
Kimberly, the author of both Quiet Storm and the recently released Always Angel, guided students through a series of creative writing challenges in which the Y8s celebrated their unique cultural identities.
Following that, Kimberly – joined by our very own Mr Lemord and Miss Esdaille – judged the annual Rhetoric by Heart Competition, in which students read aloud their social justice speeches that they had crafted in class. The speeches were ranked for clarity, passion, vocabulary vocal projection.
The competition was fierce and, in our eyes, all the students who contributed were winners, but the final results were:
- Bronze Award: Anashe (£10 voucher)
- Silver Award: Famke (£20 voucher)
- Gold Award: James (£30 voucher)
Well done everyone who made it such a special day. See you next year!
