On Thursday 12 March 2026, Year 10 musicians were invited to watch the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra rehearse in their home at Dock 10, Media City.
As the only school involved, we were lucky to have front row seats at the rehearsal session, which involved practice of 'Tristan and Isolde' (Wagner) for an up-and-coming programme of concerts.
Students got to see the orchestra in all their glory, first playing the piece in its entirety and then rehearse key sections. A first hand and immersive experience to see what its like to sit as a musician and watch the conductor direct many aspects of the rehearsal.
Students were also invited into the sound booth area and explore other sections of Dock 10, where many media outlets, including BBC, ITV and Channel 4 record many programmes.
Students also had the opportunity to visit the Lowry Galleries exploring the work of LS Lowry through an immerse 360 experience.
A wonderful day of music and culture in Salford.
