Year 2 Round Up of the Term

It has been a busy and exciting term in Year 2, with lots of opportunities for children to explore, create and learn through hands-on experiences.

In English, the children enjoyed a special Gruffalo Granny storytelling session and took part in a Hansel and Gretel woodland adventure to inspire their writing. They also decorated and tasted gingerbread biscuits, using their senses to help create descriptive vocabulary and exciting pieces of writing.

In Maths, Year 2 have developed their place value skills through partitioning numbers into tens and ones, as well as taking their learning outdoors to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. The children also created giant number lines and worked together to spot and correct mistakes.

In Science, we have been learning about plants and their life cycles, exploring different types of seeds and discussing what plants need to grow.

As part of Black History Month, the children explored our values of respect and compassion through stories, art and music. Inspired by 'Julian is a Mermaid', they celebrated diversity, designed colourful carnival masks and created musical rhythms using boomwhackers.

We also enjoyed Careers Day, learning about different occupations, reflecting on our strengths and discussing the importance of challenging stereotypes. In addition, a visiting dentist taught us how to keep our teeth healthy through good brushing habits and healthy lifestyle choices, with every child receiving a toothbrush, toothpaste and sticker to take home.

We are so proud of the enthusiasm, curiosity and positivity Year 2 have shown this term, and we look forward to sharing even more exciting learning with you in the weeks ahead.
