On Thursday 1 December, WHGS’s Year 8 Geography Club members; Dinah, Niki, Shania, Meerab and Anayah, competed against other Year 8, 9, 10 and 11 geographers from around Greater Manchester and Cheshire at the Manchester Branch of the Geographical Association’s ‘Worldwise Quiz’.
Hosted at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Business School, the team excelled in ‘Geography in the News’ and ‘Ordnance Survey’ rounds, as well as with their flag, capital city and country outlines knowledge, which we had practised at Geography Club during the Autumn Term. Questions were presented by members of the Manchester Branch of the Geographical Association, and this year’s winners, Manchester Grammar School, took home a glass trophy and all competitors will receive a certificate for their participation.
Our Year 8’s determination and effort in Geography outside of normal lesson times has been a pleasure to see and, despite this being the first time that WHGS has entered a team to compete at the competition, we are hoping to recruit and train another team and enter again next year.
