On 7 May, our Year 10 Food and Nutrition students had the privilege of attending a guest lecture by Sarah from Nutriwise Education, who is a registered dietitian.. The session began with an in-depth look at the role of a dietitian and the qualifications required to pursue this career. Sarah's expertise and passion for her field were evident as she shared valuable insights into the profession.
The highlight of the talk was an exploration of diet-related diseases, a crucial part of the Food and Nutrition GCSE specification. Sarah discussed conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease, explaining who is at risk and offering practical tips on reducing these risks through dietary changes. Her presentation was both factual and informative, providing our students with a clear understanding of these important health issues.
Sarah's engaging PowerPoint and materials were perfectly pitched for our aspiring students, demonstrating the connections between science and food. She also opened their eyes to potential careers in the medical field that can be pursued with a food qualification.
We are grateful to Sarah for her time and for inspiring our students with her knowledge and enthusiasm. This talk not only enriched their understanding of the subject, but also highlighted the exciting career opportunities available in the field of dietetics.
