Year 8 students spent an aptly rainy Tuesday afternoon taking shelter in the Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot, and watching a spell-binding performance of Willian Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
The play, a set text for all Year 8s at WHGS, features timeless themes of power, colonisation and patriarchy, and our students were treated to a wild, wacky and wonderful version of the text. While the actors spoke in the original early modern language, they also brought along a few synthesisers, magic tricks and water pistols for good measure.
Students and staff (Dr Rodgers, Mr McDonald and Miss Simms) left the theatre with big smiles and an expanded appreciation of the play and spent the return journey keenly debating over which character was best (Ariel, Caliban or Prospero?) but with everyone agreeing that it was a magical day out.
