Students and staff at William Hulme’s Grammar School (WHGS) in Manchester are celebrating again today as GCSE results are released across the country.
This year at WHGS, three quarters of Year 11s (75%) achieved grade 4 or higher across all KS4 subjects, with an impressive 62% achieving a grade 5 or above. In English alone, 65% of students achieved a grade 5 or above, with 62% achieving the same in maths.
In addition to the overall measures, there were some particularly impressive individual performances:
- Maliha, who achieved six grade 9s and three grade 8s;
- Ammara, who achieved five grade 9s and four grade 8s;
- Jonas, who achieved four grade 9s, four grade 8s and three grade 7s;
- Hasnat, who achieved four grade 9s, three grade 8s and two grade 7s;
- Muuad, who achieved three grade 9s, three grade 8s and one grade 7;
- Sadek, who achieved three grade 9s, six grade 8s and one grade 7;
- Judith, who achieved two grade 9s, six grade 8s and three grade 7s;
- Colette, who achieved two grade 9s, three grade 8s and three grade 7s;

Today’s GCSE performances mirror the success of WHGS’s Sixth Form last week, when students’ results enabled them to secure their next steps at top destinations and on the most desirable of courses of their choice. Many Year 11s are now excited to be following in their footsteps by staying at WHGS to continue their education.
Dinah, a student who collected her results today, said:
"I really hope my teachers know that this achievement is not just for me, but also for them. They’ve definitely worked hard over these years to help guide me through my subjects and prepare me for my exams, so I’m really happy.”
Congratulating students on their achievements, Thom Copestake, Head of School at WHGS, said:
“Today’s results reflect the ambition, determination and character of an exceptional group of young people. Our students have worked with real purpose, supported one another and shown an impressive commitment to achieving their best. We are incredibly proud of everything they have accomplished and excited to see them approach their next steps with confidence.”
Kate Heaton, Principal, added:
“This is a proud day for our entire school community. Our students’ achievements are a testament to their hard work, the dedication of our outstanding staff and the steadfast support of their families.
“These results provide strong foundations for the future, and we look forward to seeing every student embrace the opportunities ahead. We are particularly delighted that many will continue their journey in our thriving Sixth Form, where they will be encouraged to aim high, broaden their horizons and fulfil their potential.”
