PE and Sport Premium
William Hulme’s Grammar School Primary Physical Education and Sport Premium Allocation
In 2020-2021, the amount of grant received by WHGS for the Primary PE and Sport Premium is £19,300.
Since we are an all-through school, we have a team of specialist PE teachers from the Secondary Phase, who can support the development of physical education teaching and learning in the Primary Phase.
All classes from Year 1 to Year 6 have two hours of physical education over the course of the week. A range of sports and skills are taught, including gymnastics, dance, hockey, football, rugby, netball, cricket and athletics. All children take part in house competitions in all of these disciplines. We also use the Sport Premium Fund to ensure that pupils leave the Primary Phase as competent swimmers, up to at least 25 metres. In order to do this, all children in Year 5 have a weekly swimming session with a qualified swimming teacher.
The PE curriculum in the Primary Phase is underpinned by the excellent extra-curricular programme, which takes place during lunch times and after school. We provide opportunities for pupils to take part in dance, yoga, football, cricket, dodgeball, tag rugby, gymnastics and multi-sports. These clubs are subject to change on a termly basis, according to the children's interests. In many of these disciplines, the pupils take part in competitive sport tournaments. with other schools from the local area.
