• What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?

    Within 24 hours, you will receive information by email that includes the expectations of your child in terms of attendance to live teaching lessons and completion of work. This information includes a timetable of learning. We will contact you to arrange collection of a Chromebook where this is needed.

  • Following the first few days of immediate education, will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum remotely as they would if they were in school?

    We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate.

  • How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?

    We expect that remote education provision (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:

    Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 = 3 hours

    Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 = 3-4 hours

  • How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?

    Nursery and Reception We use Microsoft Sway/pre-recorded teaching and you will receive daily links to these via text. In addition to this, links are available on the school website under "Continuity of Learning".

    We also encourage you to submit evidence of your child's learning through "Evidence Me" in order to receive feedback. You will have received information to help you support your child with this.

    Years 1 to 6 We use Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Teams to support online live learning. We also use some pre-recorded teaching to support learning. Your child has their own Office 365 account. Your child has been shown how to use a Chromebook and how to access Teams. You will have received information to help you support your child with this.

  • How will my child be taught remotely?

    For Nursery and Reception:

    For year 1 -6

    • Live teaching (online lessons)
    • Pre-recorded teaching of phonics and small group work through Read Write Inc

    • Printed paper packs produced by teachers (e.g. workbooks, worksheets)
    • Bug Club for online reading
    • Commercially available websites supporting the teaching of specific subjects or areas, including video clips or sequences
  • If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?

    We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education:

    • If your child does not have access to appropriate technology, they will be offered a Chromebook and 4G data dongle if needed.
    • You will be given a time to collect these.
    • You will be asked to sign for the Chromebook when you collect it and will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

  • What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home

    Nursery and Reception

    • We expect parents to sign the Form at the top of the Sway each day.
    • Your child is expected to complete the work set.

    Year 1 to 6

    • Your child is expected to complete the work set.
    • Where your child is invited to a live lesson, they are expected to attend. Where they do not attend, we will make a phone call to you to ensure that this happens.
    • We expect parents to support their child’s learning, including ensuring that they are available and online for any live teaching.
    • You will receive information about what we expect during live teaching. Please ensure that your child follows these expectations.
  • How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?

    Nursery and Reception

    • Teachers will be checking your child's work through "Evidence me"
    • If your child is not submitting any work, we will make a phone call home to check.

    Year 1 to 6

    • There will be daily live teaching sessions which will allow teachers to check on your how well your child is doing. We will also be checking that they are submitting their assignments.
    • If your child is not online when we expect them to be, we will make a phone call home to check.
    • If your child is not completing and submitting work, your child’s classteacher will call you to discuss this. They will talk to you about how you can help.
  • How will you assess my child’s work and progress?

    Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children; for example, whole-class feedback or quizzes marked automatically via digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others. Our approach to feeding back on pupil work is as follows:

    • We might ask your child to send their work back via email or Teams assignments. A photograph works well for this, but your child’s teacher will let you know what we need.
    • We will sometimes use online quizzes to check if your child has understood what they have been learning.
    • Your child will have at least one opportunity during the week to speak to their teacher about their work. This might be during a live streamed lesson, or it might be during a phone call with you.
  • Additional support for pupils with particular needs

  • How will you work with me to support my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?

    We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with SEND, may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:

    If your child has special educational needs and/ or disabilities, we will speak to you directly about their support. They will continue to be supported through live teaching or additional recorded information. This work will match what they would access in school as far as is practicable. There might be some circumstances where this is not possible, but we will speak to you directly about this.

    For younger children in Nursery and Reception, we will also send information about activities you can do at home to support your child. This will include some pre-recorded lessons and stories.

  • Remote provision for self-isolating pupils

  • If my child is not in school because they are self-isolating, how will their remote education differ from the approaches described above?

    If your child is not in school because they are self-isolating, we will follow the same approach as above. We will contact you to discuss our child’s learning at least once a week.
