Year 6 Manchester Cathedral Trip

Year 6 showed great respect when they visited Manchester Cathedral recently. This term in Religious Education (RE) lessons, pupils have been considering the key question of what is more important to religious people, architecture or charity.

WHGS Summer Concert

The Music Department hosted a wonderful Summer Concert in the Great Hall to a very supportive audience of parents, students, friends and staff.

Henshaws Visit

On Tuesday 9 July, we welcomed friends from Henshaws, who joined us to celebrate our last meeting of the year with a buffet, brilliant conversation and music.

Culture Day

Our final Culture Day of this academic year was a resounding success! Each Phase enjoyed lunchtime with a DJ, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.

Year 4 Trip to the Pankhurst Centre

This half term, Year 4 immersed themselves in their History learning with a visit to the Pankhurst Centre in Manchester. This historic visit provided them with a unique opportunity to step back in time and delve into the inspiring life of Emmeline Pankhurst, right from the house where she initiated the suffragette movement.

Primary Phase Subject Ambassadors

Throughout this academic year, our Subject Ambassadors have been a model of excellence across the Primary Phase. They have worked on numerous projects to help to promote and develop their subject area.

Year 12 HE+ Programme

The HE+ Programme provides students with exposure to university-level content and teaching methods. Participants engage in various subject-specific sessions that challenge them beyond their regular school curriculum.

Year 9 Factory International Workshops

During May and June, Factory International held four creative career workshop sessions with a group of our Year 9 students, with the aim of de-mystifying the world of Arts and Culture.

Y8-Y10 History in Modern Britain Lecture

On Thursday 27 June, history student and political activist, Destine Reynolds, from the University of Manchester came in to speak to Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 students about the importance of studying history in modern Britain.

Year 6 Transition Design Event

On Thursday 27 and Friday 28 June, Year 6 were lucky enough to take part in another transition event, as the Design Technology (DT) Department welcomed us.

Year 6 Transition Art Event

Year 6 loved being creative during their first transition event of the year with the Art Department. Mrs McGlasson and Ms Shaw prepared lots of resources for us to create masks inspired by our end-of-year production, "The Jungle Book".

Primary Leadership Team Kindness Award

We are thrilled to announce that "Team Hunger No More" has been chosen as the runner-up for the prestigious Collective Kindness Award by the charity 52 Lives! This incredible achievement highlights the dedication and compassion of our students in their mission to end hunger in our local community of Manchester.

WOW Factor

Wednesday 19 June marked the return of WHGS's annual talent show - the Wow Factor. The evening was a huge success thanks to all our wonderful participants and brilliant audience.

Primary Social Action Project

Year 1 and Year 2 were very excited to engage in a Social Action Project to support refugee children in our local community. All pupils generously donated gifts for refugee children living in local accommodation in Manchester, who were celebrating Eid ul Adha.

Y12 Turing Trip to Ecuador

Twelve students in Year 12 had the incredible opportunity to visit Ecuador in April, through the Turing Scheme and their partners; Kaya Travel and EcoExplora. This once in a lifetime experience saw students care for endangered species, hike through the Amazon rainforest, visit local indigenous people and delve into the culture that makes Ecuador such a beautiful, diverse and welcoming place. The students were joined by Mrs Likissa a Biology Teacher, Mr Gideonse a Maths Teacher and a local guide.

Y12 Professor David Olusoga Lecture

On Thursday 6 June, our Y12 students attended a lecture by renowned historian, Professor David Olusoga, entitled 'Making History in the Age of Black Lives Matter.' This lecture was hosted by the University of Manchester as part of their Bicentenary Celebrations in 2024.
