Year 2 Reading Adventures

Year 2 have been enjoying the story 'Somebody Crunched Colin', a fun tale about a piece of litter on a mission to find out who crushed him - and along the way, it teaches us about the importance of keeping our environment clean.

Year 4 Learn About Electrical Circuits

In Year 4 this half term, we have been learning all about electrical circuits. As part of our project, we designed and created the external part of our torches, carefully decorating them to make them look their best.

Fairytales in Nursery

In Nursery, we have been captivated by all thing’s 'fairytales' this half term. We have loved building castles in our construction area, making thrones in our imagination area and drawing princesses and castles in our literacy sessions and making jigsaw puzzles.

Year 1 Forest School

Year 1 had a fantastic time at Forest School! The children got creative building cosy hedgehog houses, warmed up with delicious hot chocolate, and toasted marshmallows to make yummy s’mores around the campfire.

A 'Night at the Musicals'

The Drama and Music Department hosted a wonderful evening of songs from musicals this week, to a very supportive audience of parents, students, friends and staff.

Year 5 DT and Science Experiments

This half term, Year 5 have been getting 'hands on' with our lessons. They have been experimenting with how gears and pulleys work in Design & Technology and testing the effects of friction in Science.

Book Club Author Visit

We were very lucky to have the author of 'Quiet Storm', Kimberley Whittam drop by during Book Club on Thursday, as a reward for them finishing the book. The author is a local writer and she used to work at WHGS.

Year 10 Work Experience Week

Our Year 10 students completed their work experience during the week of Monday 12 to Friday 16 May 2025. Students were given the opportunity to gain valuable key skills to strengthen their knowledge and confidence by being independent learners in the work place for one week.

Year 7 Masterchef Competition

On Tuesday 13 May, the Food & Nutrition Department held the Year 7 MasterChef Competition. It was a very busy evening with many Year 7 students cooking a variety of tasty dishes.

KS3 Careers Fair

We held our final KS3 Careers Drop Down Day for the academic year on Tuesday 13 May 2025.  The turnout was amazing with local employers, such as GMP, CBRE, HMRC, with local colleges and HE providing CEIAG guidance and Post 16/HE options to our KS3 students.  

Y10 Food & Nutrition Guest Speaker: Sarah the Dietitian

On 7 May, our Year 10 Food and Nutrition students had the privilege of attending a guest lecture by Sarah from Nutriwise Education, who is a registered dietitian.. The session began with an in-depth look at the role of a dietitian and the qualifications required to pursue this career. Sarah's expertise and passion for her field were evident as she shared valuable insights into the profession.

Y9 Maths Trip to Leeds

On Friday 9 May, thirty enthusiastic Year 9 students, accompanied by two Sixth Formers and staff, headed to Leeds for a day of mathematical exploration and problem-solving.

Sixth Form Showcase

After months of hard work and practice, the L3 BTEC Music students provided a fantastic and entertaining programme of music which was filmed in readiness to be sent off to be marked by external examiners.

Henshaws Visit

On Tuesday 6 May, we welcomed our friends from Henshaws back into school.

Guests were serenaded by our KS4 and KS5 musicians. Upper School Vocals performed 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough', our Year 10 band gave their own rendition of 'Sweet Child of Mine', complete with a stunning guitar solo by Jonas.

Primary Phase End of Term Values Reward

To mark the end of term, our Primary Phase celebrated the amazing pupils who consistently demonstrated our school values of Respect, Ambition and Compassion. Children who received a postcard for each of these values this half term were treated to a special Easter Egg Hunt as a well-earned reward!

The Great British Spring Clean!

During the last two weeks of term, our wonderful pupils rolled up their sleeves to make our community a cleaner, greener place! As part of the Great British Spring Clean, classes in the Primary Phase helped tidy up the streets, school grounds, and local field.
