Culture Day

On Wednesday, we celebrated our first Whole School Culture Day of the academic year!

Year 8 Theatre Trip

Year 8 students spent an aptly rainy Tuesday afternoon taking shelter in the Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot, and watching a spell-binding performance of Willian Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

Early Years Learn with Me

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Learn with Me session on Early Reading Skills. It was a pleasure to see such enthusiastic participation, and the positive feedback we received was truly appreciated.

Diwali Celebrations

This week, our Primary pupils have really enjoyed learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali —the festival of lights.

T1 Rugby Mega Fest

Two teams of Year 6 pupils proudly participated in the T1 Rugby Mega Fest held by Team Mcr at WHGS Secondary.

Henshaws Visit

On Tuesday 7 October, WHGS welcomed friends from Henshaws. As this was their first visit of the year, students were excited to perform and be part of the celebrations.

Y5/Y6 Girls Football

A thrilling and action-packed Team Mcr Girls’ Football Event was recently held at Whalley Range 11-18 High School, bringing together enthusiastic young female footballers from across the area.

KS3 Cross Country Event

During the last two weeks of September, twenty-six students from KS3 have represented WHGS in the Manchester Schools Cross Country event held at Wythenshawe Sports Ground.

Y13 Law and Politics Students Visit London!

On Monday 22 September, our Year 13 Law and Politics students, accompanied by Ms Ingham (Head of Law and Politics) and Ms Simpson (Vice Principal), travelled to London for an educational visit. The trip included tours of the Supreme Court, Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament.

Y6 Production of Oliver

Year 6 wowed audiences with their phenomenal performance of ‘Oliver’. They confidently sang classic songs, such as ‘Food Glorious Food’ and ‘Consider Yourself’ with great volume and expression, and showed great characterisation to bring to life iconic characters like Fagin, the Artful Dodger and, of course, Oliver.

Y10 People's History Museum Trip

On Monday 7 July, Year 10 History students attended a trip to the People's History Museum in Manchester, exploring exhibitions on the history of protest, democracy, society and culture in Britain from the Industrial period to the modern day.

Y3 Manchester Art Gallery Visit

Year 3 experienced a little bit of culture last week. Both classes visited Manchester Art Gallery and took part in two workshops to learn even more about Greek Mythology.  

Book Club Party

We had a lovely little celebration with our Book Clubbers after school on Thursday, celebrating how they had finished reading 'Quiet Storm'.

Poetry by Heart Competition

On Monday 7 July, Hasnat in Year 10 competed in the final of the prestigious national Poetry by Heart competition at The Globe Theatre in London.
