Parental Engagement in the Primary Phase

In the Primary Phase, we aim to establish excellent relationships with our families by endeavouring to engage with the families throughout the year. We establish strong links prior to the children starting Nursery, by conducting home visits. We organise a Stay and Play day for new Nursery and Reception children to attend, alongside their parents. Regular parental workshops are offered throughout the year, informing parents about how they can best support their children at home.

'Learn with Me' sessions are offered to all year groups on a weekly basis every half term. The focus last half term was Reading for Pleasure: parents were given a talk about the importance of enjoying books with their children and then had time to share a story with their child. These sessions were very well attended.

In Nursery, parents are invited to attend a four weekly program called Little Lions on a Friday afternoon. Parents spend time with Mrs Fletcher who talks to them about a specific area of the curriculum. The parents are then joined by their 'Little Lion' and spend time playing, reading and learning with them.

Other sessions have been organised to support and strengthen parental engagement, such as Speech and Language workshops, led by our school Speech Therapists. ‘Come and Chat’ sessions have also been well attended by many teachers and parents, enjoying the ability to chat on an informal basis, get a coffee and pastry, make new friends and get answers to questions from senior leaders in the moment.
