Monday 7 July 2025
On Monday 7 July, Year 10 History students attended a trip to the People's History Museum in Manchester, exploring exhibitions on the history of protest, democracy, society and culture in Britain from the Industrial period to the modern day.
They were all able to complete a research project, which contributes to their study of Edexcel Crime and Punishment at GCSE level. Through this project, they were able to study original banners which have been used in protests and marches across the past two hundred years, study artefacts and even take pictures posing with an original 'Co-Op' store and clothing from the height of the female suffrage movement. They were also able to watch and listen to archival television / radio footage from some early football matches, or the announcements of major welfare reform in the immediate post-war period. All students were also able to make badges, which reflected the history of protest and struggle as a memento from their trip.
