Ahead of our upcoming road closure days on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 November 2023, where roads leading up to WHGS (Spring Bridge Road, Waltham Road, Highbury Road and Gildridge Road) will be closed to motor vehicles between 8.00am-9.00am and 2.30pm-3:30pm, new banners have now been displayed reminding parents, carers, staff and our local residents to switch off their engines whilst waiting outside WHGS.
We hope this signage will remind drivers to park and drive considerately, away from the school gates at drop-off and pick-up times.
By raising awareness, we are trying to cut down on the air pollution given out by cars at times of the school day when lots of students are walking by, as research suggests that leaving a car engine running for one minute would fill 150 balloons full of pollution, which our students, staff, parents and carers, and residents, are breathing in as they make their way to school too.
As part of our School Street initiative, we are looking forward to further measures to help make changes to the behaviour of our parents and staff and their use of motor vehicles to get to and from school.
